United Way of Central Kentucky now registering blood drive participants

United Way of Central Kentucky (UWCK) is set to host a blood drive event for the American Red Cross Jan. 19 at their headquarters, located at 604 North Main Street in Elizabethtown. The blood drive will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Those interested in donating blood must register in advance. An event page for the blood drive with registration information can be found by visiting www.unitedwayck.org/news-and-events.

According to the American Red Cross, one in seven patients entering a hospital will need a blood transfusion. Earlier this year, the Red Cross experienced its worst national blood shortage in over a decade, caused by factors such as collection challenges and hospital demand amid COVID-19. In addition to blood donations, monetary donations can be made to the Red Cross by visiting redcross.org.

“One blood drive can save hundreds of lives, and we encourage everyone in the community who is able to donate blood to consider registering for this drive,” said Joe Fowler, president and CEO of UWCK. “United Way of Central Kentucky is all about creating community, and we believe a community is strengthened when its members come together for a worthy cause.”
