United Way of Central Kentucky (UWCK) has announced that President/CEO Christa Shouse will resign effective May 27. Shouse’s transition follows 14 years of dedicated service to the organization, spanning roles including Administrative Assistant, Director of Operations and Director of Development. She took on the role of President/CEO in 2023.
Throughout her tenure, Shouse played a key role in helping advance UWCK’s mission to ensure individuals throughout the organization’s five-county region are self-sufficient in the areas of education, financial stability and health. She helped secure funding for impactful community partner organizations while also spearheading community engagement efforts and volunteer initiatives that strengthened the region. Following her resignation, Shouse plans to focus on her lifelong passion for creative endeavors, including a renewed focus on art, photography and writing.
“United Way of Central Kentucky has been making a difference in this community for 25 years, and it has been the honor of a lifetime to lend my contributions to this ever-important and ongoing cause,” Shouse said.
Following Shouse’s departure, UWCK Board Chair Kirk Chadwick will step in as Interim President/CEO. A longtime champion of the organization’s mission, Chadwick brings more than a decade of board experience to the role, including two previous terms as Board Chair before his reappointment this year.
“For over 14 years, United Way of Central Kentucky has been strengthened by Christa’s hard work, dedication and vision,” Chadwick said. “There is no doubt that her strategic oversight, collaborative spirit and deep compassion for this community have helped strengthen and shape the organization. As she moves into this next chapter of her life, she does so with our deepest gratitude and full support. As we begin the process of identifying her successor, I look forward to building on the strong foundation she has established and continuing the momentum of her work.”
To celebrate Shouse’s work with the organization, an open house will be held Wednesday, May 27 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at UWCK’s headquarters, located at 604 North Main Street in Elizabethtown. The event is open to the public and will include brief remarks and light refreshments.
“Communities need United Way chapters because we are problem solvers,” Shouse said. “No single organization can address every challenge, but when we bring partners and community members together, real impact happens. I’ve seen those collaborations make a difference time and again, and none of it is possible without community support. I leave with confidence that United Way of Central Kentucky will continue making an impact every day.”
“Christa’s leadership has left a lasting mark on United Way of Central Kentucky and the communities it serves,” said UWCK board member and Community Investment Team member Jessica Embry. “I’m grateful for her years of service and confident the organization is well-positioned to continue building on that momentum.”
A search committee has been established by the UWCK Board of Directors to begin the vital work of selecting the organization’s next leader. Those interested in learning more about the President/CEO position can visit unitedwayck.org/careers or contact careers@unitedwayck.org.
